Artificial Intelligence Policy

Created On: 19 February 2026

The International Journal of Gastronomy Research (IJGR) acknowledges the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and scholarly writing. This policy defines the journal’s expectations regarding the responsible, ethical, and transparent use of AI technologies in the publication process.

1. Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

Authors may use AI tools (including generative AI systems and language editing software) to improve grammar, clarity, or language quality. However, AI tools must not be listed as authors, as authorship requires accountability and intellectual responsibility. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted content. The use of AI must not result in fabricated data, false citations, manipulated images, or misleading information.

If AI tools were used during manuscript preparation, their use must be clearly disclosed in the Title Page or Acknowledgements section.

2. AI in Data Analysis and Research Design

If AI tools are used for data analysis, modeling, screening, image processing, or interpretation, the specific tool and (where applicable) its version must be reported in the Methods section. The application of AI must be scientifically justified and described in sufficient detail to ensure transparency and reproducibility. Authors remain fully accountable for all results and conclusions derived from AI-assisted processes.

3. AI in Peer Review and Editorial Handling

Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts, review reports, or any confidential journal materials to external AI platforms or generative AI systems. Such actions may compromise confidentiality and violate data protection principles. All editorial and review processes must adhere to the journal’s confidentiality and ethical standards.

4. Responsibility and Accountability

AI tools cannot assume legal, ethical, or intellectual responsibility. Therefore, authors bear sole responsibility for all submitted content, including text, data, references, figures, and conclusions. The editorial office reserves the right to request clarification regarding AI use when necessary. Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may result in rejection, correction, or retraction, in accordance with the journal’s Publication Ethics Policy and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
